WELCOME to the Geary Girls Ranch. My name is Susie Black Holamon, and I was in foster care in Dallas from the age of 12 to 17 years old. This ranch is a tribute and a legacy to Joe and Charlotte Geary, who created a home environment for me and my siblings. I attribute my success in life to the care and support they provided. I am now a retired teacher, have been married for over 40 years, and raised two sons.
Over the last three years, I have immersed myself in the foster care system as a mentor and a respite to the Ebby House Girls (a transitional home for girls who have aged out of the system) and being a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) to a teenage girl who in less than three years has had six different placements all over Texas and six different caseworkers.
Here in North Texas, the need for good foster homes is tremendous, and we hope to help young girls before they are placed in the system. Girls will be referred from churches, schools, organizations, and individuals, within a 19 county area in North Texas. After an interview and application process to ensure that they are a good fit for our programs and life at the ranch, each girl will be housed within one of our cottages.
The Geary Girls Ranch will be a privately funded, Christian home. We will not receive any state or federal funding. Gifts and support from people like you will make a change in the way teenage girls are fostered and will help us to provide a safe, healthy home environment and programs.
God Bless You,
Susie Black Holamon President and Founder
